Entrepreneur’s ‘Greener’ Clothes To Be Stocked By M&S

A Manchester entrepreneur has been awarded a deal with high street retailer Marks and Spencer to stock his line of clothes made of entirely recycled plastic.

Since setting up his business Greenpac six years ago, Simon Lee has achieved an annual turnover of £2 million, with the green fleeces to be stocked by the retail giant just one of several innovations he has already successfully marketed.

Established with the aim of discovering new methods of re-using waster materials, Greenpac melts down plastic bottles at its Birmingham factory and produces yarn which is then used in its clothing line.

“If the notion of wearing plastic bottles seems odd then people should bear in mind both the bottles and synthetic yarn from which all fleeces are made are derived from the same material- crude oil,” Mr Lee explained.

Making use of his background in the packaging industry, the 46 year-old has previously marketed an eco-friendly shoebox, which uses half the material of a normal shoebox.

With retailers increasingly adopting green principles, there is currently a significant market for innovative eco-friendly products for UK entrepreneurs to work to.
