Entrepreneurial Spirit Boosts Comic Relief March 20
Red Nose Day’s takings were boosted on Friday night with a celebrity version of The Apprentice.
Sir Alan Sugar returned to his role as the disgruntled boss, but rather than pushing around wannabe high flyers, the tycoon was faced with a string of celebrities bidding to put their entrepreneurial talents to the test for charity.
Two teams - one male, one female - were pitted against each other and had to use their initiative to create a funfair that would make large amounts of money for Comic Relief.
Among those taking part in the show for the men were former Number Ten spin doctor, Alistair Campbell, former Daily Mirror editor, Piers Morgan and DJ Danny Baker.
In the women’s team - which eventually won the competition - were Girls Aloud singer, Cheryl Cole, comic Jo Brand and businesswoman and Birmingham City Football Club managing director, Karren Brady.
Despite being in such renowned company, Amstrad supremo Sir Alan made no allowances for his celebrity apprentices and was soon lambasting them, uttering his famous catchphrase: “You’re Fired”.
But the grilling faced by the contestants proved worth it, with the two teams managing to raise £1 million in aid of Comic Relief.
Although whether any of those competing will now consider becoming entrepreneurs after suffering the wrath of Sir Alan seems somewhat unlikely.
